Relations between the two countries of Poland

and Turkey have a rich history.

Their references date back to 1414, when, according to the chronicle of Jan Długosz, Polish envoys were received in Bursa, which was then the capital of the Ottoman Empire. They were the first European diplomats at the Sultan’s court. Over the centuries, Polish-Turkish relations have changed from hostile when we fought wars to almost friendly in times of peace. Regardless of whether our countries were united by friendship or war, they were always relationships full of mutual respect and dignity. Turkey was the only country that never recognized the partitions of Poland when it disappeared from the maps of Europe. Poles in the Ottoman Empire could always find shelter and a safe place to live.

Poles repaid with work or military help, here we should mention one of our generals who found his home in Turkey – Józef Bem. Today Turkey is one of Poland’s important economic partners. The high dynamics of trade exchange bodes well for the future and gives hope for lasting relations. In the years 2002-2011, Polish-Turkish trade exchange increased more than six fold.Poland is a country open to students from Turkey and we are happy to host them at our University, glad that it was at our University that they decided to develop their skills and competences.
